Cendrawasih, Bird of Paradise

There are more than three dozen species in the family Paradisaeidae, or better known as the bird of paradise. There are about 13 genera of these birds and the most famous member of the genus Paradisaea.

In Indonesia we call it the bird of paradise. Characterized by striking colors and bright, yellow hair, blue, red, and green. With colors so they become the most beautiful and interesting birds in the world, so-called bird of paradise.

Birds of paradise found in Papua or Papua New Guinea and surrounding islands, including Eastern Australia. Unfortunately, the existence of these birds decreases with the number of poaching irresponsible.

By the people of Papua, birds of paradise is believed to be incarnation of an angel from heaven. This bird was once considered a beautiful bird but did not legged. They will not turung to the ground but just being in the air only because the beautiful plumage. Therefore, later known as the Bird of Paradise Bird of Paradise or the Bird Paradise (Heaven). And several species of the genus Paradisaea known is that its name comes from the word Paradise.

Lesser bird of paradise (Paradisaea minor)

The Lesser bird of paradise known as the small yellow Paradise. This medium-sized bird with a length of about 32 cm, red-brown with a yellow crown and upper back brownish yellow. Male birds have the throat emerald-green color, a pair of long tail feathers and adorned with decorative wings yellow at the base of the white area in the outer regions. Female birds are smaller than males, has a dark brown head, white chest and without feathers adorned with ornaments. Raggiana bird of paradise (Paradisaea Raggiana)

Ribbon-tailed Astrapia (Astrapia mayeri)

This is one of the most spectacular birds of paradise. Blue bird of paradise (Paradisaea Rudolphi)

His name reminds one of the names Taxi transportation in Indonesia. This bird is about 30 cm, black, dark brown iris, gray legs. Riflebird Paradise (Ptiloris paradiseus)

Red bird of paradise (Paradisaea rubra)

Burung jantan memiliki warna hitam dengan kening putih, warnawarni tengkuk biru ungu dan emas bulu dada hijau. Dihiasi dengan tiga kawat hias kepala dari belakang setiap mata dan memanjang mengapit bulu yang berwarna hitam. Burung betina berwarna coklat dengan kepala burung gelap, iris kuning dan gelap.

King of Saxony bird of paradise (Pteridophora Alberti)

Burun jantan adalah berwarna merah dan hitam dengan jubah kuning di leher, mulut hijau muda, kaki biru dan dua bulu ekor berwarna ungu yang melengkung. Semetara itu betina berwarna kecoklatan dengan mahkota biru. Merupakan endemik Indonesia, dengan daerah penyebaran di bukit dan hutan hujan dataran rendah Kepulauan Waigeo dan Batanta dari Papua Barat.




Princess Stephanie's Astrapia (Astrapia stephaniae)
